Acting Director and Deputy Director, Joint Reserve Detachment (JRD)

CAPT Scott Williams is the Acting Director and Deputy Director of the Joint Reserve Detachment (JRD) at the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU). In this role, he brings more than 22 years of military experience across a wide spectrum of capacities. 

While on active duty, Scott’s roles ranged from Naval Aviator duties piloting and instructing various Navy aircraft to supporting the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). Following his transition to the reserves, Scott continued his aviation duties supporting Fleet Logistics Support Wing (FLSW), piloting aircraft, serving as Commanding Officer of VR-54’s “Revelers” in New Orleans, LA and acting as a special projects liaison between FLSW and DIU. 

Scott then joined DIU and currently supports the Defense Engagement Team. Prior to his current role at DIU he served as the Navy Reserve Lead. In his role as Acting Director/ Deputy Director of the JRD, he provides specialty reserve personnel from across the Services in direct support of DIU’s six portfolios, engagement teams and active service counterparts.

As a civilian, Scott is an Air Force civilian (NH-04) at Kessel Run, a Division within Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Digital Directorate, under Program Executive Office Digital. Prior to Kessel Run, Scott consulted for Booz Allen Hamilton, supporting the Navy and Marine Corps market in the Strategic Innovation Group. 

Scott is a proud U.S. Naval Academy graduate, and holds over 13 professional licenses and certifications from Aviation Transport Pilot, aviation safety, Agile coaching and facilitation,  program/ product  management, user experience (UX), technology and operations.
