Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

We apologize for any difficulties you may have when responding to our solicitation or uploading materials. Please see this guidance for help with most common problems.

You will receive a confirmation email when your submission is received (sometimes this can take one to two hours). If you do not receive a confirmation email after that time, please first check your SPAM folder and then reach out to us via the form below before the deadline and select "DIU Solicitations" from the drop down menu. Note that certain firewall settings may prevent email delivery on certain occasions.

Someone from the DIU team will contact you within 30 days if we or our DoD customer require further information to evaluate your solution brief.

We know that your time is a valuable commodity. DIU provides responses to each company, regardless of whether we decide to move forward with a company or not.

DIU strives to respond to all submitted solicitations as quickly as possible, with a goal of providing an answer within 30 days. However, this timeline may vary depending on the number of pitches we receive, the complexity of the problem statement, or other internal factors.

If you have submitted a solution and received a confirmation email, you can be confident that you’ll hear back from us as soon as we’re ready.

At DIU, our problem statements are born out of verified operational challenges  that our military is currently facing. Generally speaking, we are seeking commercial technologies available in the market that also relate specifically to our solicitations.

With that said, if you have a technology that may be relevant to the U.S. Department of Defense, but that we have not specifically solicited, we would still like to hear from you. You can reach out to us by using the contact form at the bottom of this page.

Before contacting us, please consider whether or not your technology supports an open solicitation and/or has already  achieved some level of commercial market penetration. Those details really help!

DIU carefully reviews each solution brief, evaluating them on their merit and potential to solve the problem identified in the solicitation. Unfortunately,  the sheer volume of submissions we receive means that we are unable to offer feedback on individual technologies or proposals. We do however encourage you to keep an eye on our upcoming solicitations for any future opportunities to work with DIU.

For an overview of the DIU down-select process, known as the Commercial Solutions Opening (CSO) process, please view this video explainer. We also have information on our website on how to submit a solution brief, and answers to Frequently Asked Questions about working with us.

Any project materials intended for public dissemination are subject to DIU approval. This review process ensures alignment with organizational standards, as well as accuracy. For communication inquiries please email SCT@diu.mil.
