The Problem This Solution Solves
Today, DoD mandates the use of a cloud access point gateway to secure and control communication between endpoints and public cloud service providers. Users on the internet must traverse the DoDIN and the DoD’s cloud access point gateway to access public cloud services. That pathway has scalability, performance, and useability constraints making it difficult to collaborate in real time and to securely share documents in line with standard private sector practices.
The Solution
DIU implemented and formally assessed McAfee’s commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technology that promised to deliver fast, secure, and controlled access to public cloud services directly over the internet, thereby avoiding the need to pass through the DoDIN and the DoD’s cloud access point gateway. This has become a particularly valuable capability as more DoD members wish to access public cloud services from outside the DoDIN. McAfee received a Success Memo from DIU in June, 2021, which means that any DoD entity can execute an OTA production contract with McAfee without the need to recompete.
