The Problem This Solution Solves
Highly capable small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) are commercially available, which provides adversaries with a low-cost option for conducting kinetic strike and persistent surveillance. Systems are needed that utilize an open, extensible associated control system that can exchange targeting data with a variety of other DoD systems and are able to counter the sUAS threat with a low-cost, consistent effect.
The Solution
Raytheon’s Coyote System is a Common Launch Tube (CLT) interceptor drone based on a traditional defense design that includes an explosive charge to defeat drones mid-air and decreases the time to target and increases the likelihood of success. It was successfully prototyped and tested at Yuma Proving Ground. Production award executed via Defense Microelectronics Agency, deployed in the USCENTCOM area of responsibility.
